Why Give
When Baltimore businessman and philanthropist Moses Sheppard bequeathed his entire estate to help form The Sheppard Asylum in 1849, he envisioned an institution that would fundamentally improve treatment of the mentally ill, which, from his mid-19th century vantage point, was deplorable. Now, 160 years later, philanthropy continues to play a pivotal role in sustaining Moses Sheppard’s dream and allows Sheppard Pratt to lead the way in the areas of patient care, special education and research.
